Step by Step Instructions for Character Profiler
Below are step by step instructions to set up your characters so their detailed information will be displayed on our Roster. If you do not do this, the characters will still be displayed on the roster, but all of us will miss out on many uses of the roster including quest help, looking up what members can craft you a specific item, and many more options. Be sure to look around the Roster and select the many buttons along the top, there is much, much more then is evident at first glance.
Step 1: Create an Account
Click here to create an account. Do NOT use your WoW log-in and password. You can if you wish, but this would be giving it out to whomever runs this website. Note that only one person per WoW account (even if multiple players) should create an RPGOutfitter account. If multiple players create accounts while all playing under the same WoW username, there will be problems.
Step 2: Download the File
Click here to download the file (latest version 06/20/06). Save the folder some place temporarily.
Open the the folders you downloaded until you find the one named Character Profiler.
Place this folder inside your AddOns folder of World of Warcraft. A typical location is at C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons.

Step 3: Save Your Characters In-Game
Log-in to WoW to your first character. Type /cp in your text window. You will see a display of commands if everything has been downloaded right. If nothing happens, you did not download the right file to the right place (go back to Step 2).
You need the program to collect your character's details. This will eventually happen as you play the game, but let's force it to happen now.
Open up your character paper-doll by typing, C. You will notice a new Save button at the top left corner. Push this button. Your primary character profile (inventory, skills, talents, reputation, honor) has just been saved.

Look down to your text box. You will notice some text in red. Some stats were not saved, normally your Spellbook, Bank, Tradeskills, and Stable if you have a pet. Open up your Spellbook by hitting P. Wait a few seconds while it appears nothing happens. The profiler is gathering all of your abilities from your Spellbook. Next open up each Tradeskill, one at a time, and wait a few seconds. This records each of your tradeskills and the recipes you have. The next time you are at your Bank, open it and all the bags inside. Wait a few seconds while your inventory is gathered. If you have a pet, you may also want to find a stable master and open up your stables.
Go play, or continue below to immediately upload what you gathered to the roster. You will also want to do this for each character you play to gather their details also.
Step 4: Upload Your Data to the Roster
Note: Automated Upload: RPG Outfitter suggests that you can use Uni-Uploader as a means to automate the uploading of your Character Profiler information. I personally have chosen not to utilize this, as I do not want to risk using any third-party .exe software in connection with WoW. It's easy enough to upload the information manually.
Log out of WoW (I believe WoW can be running, just no character can be in-game).
Go here and make sure you are logged into the RPGOutfitter site using the name and password from Step 1.
At the home screen for the RPGOutfitter website you will see an Upload button towards the right on the gray bar. If you do not see it, you are not logged in.

Click on this Upload button. The first time, you may see a screen that asks you to select a server type. Select US Servers. You will the see a page with a large form. Only one part of this form is needed by us. Look close to the top under your username. You will see CharacterProfiler with an empty box and a Browse button.

Click the Browse button and navigate to find your CharacterProfiler.lua file. You only need to find this file the first time you do this. Most everyone's file will be located at C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\<your account name>\SavedVariables\CharacterProfiler.lua. Be sure not to select the CharacterProflier.lua.bak file that looks similar.

Click the upload file(s) button further down the form. Wait while a window pops open and you can see the information you gathered being collected. This will normally take under a minute.
You are done! Go look at the Roster and if everything worked you will now see your character names in blue color. Click on them and you will be able to look at detailed information for all of your characters.

Closing: Keeping Updated
How often should you update (and thus upload) your information? If one of your characters never gets played, his information thus will never need to be updated until you play him again. A good practice would be when you log-in to play a character, go through Step 3 above, this should take less then a minute. I wouldn't run off to the bank every time you log-in with the character, but of course you eventually will have to anyway. This will keep your played characters updated in the file described above.
Then, from time to time, simply upload your file (Step 4). Create a shortcut to the upload form, and click the upload button every couple days. This should take about a minute since after you have done it once it is simply a matter of going to this page and clicking the upload button. This sends all of your updates you have been saving while playing to the roster.
If you have any questions go ask them on the forum or ask Sturn.
