Ranks and Promotions
THE RANKS
Page: Probationary member of the guild. All new recruits begin at this rank. Pages have no voting powers and may be dismissed from the guild by a member of the Grey Council at any time for an infraction of our Code of Conduct. Pages may also be dismissed from the Grey Council if after joining, they are not seen in-game for a long period of time. Pages will be dismissed if they are unable or unwilling to obtain the rank of Squire.
Squire: A knight in training. Squires are Pages that have become known to the guild, posted a background (character and/or player) on our forum, has a character level 10 or higher, and passed the Squires' Test showing knowledge of our history and charter. Any full member of the guild (Knight rank or higher) may stop the promotion of a Page to Squire.
Knight: A full member of the Grey Knights. Knights are life-long members meaning that if they move to another guild within the Grey Clans, they will retain their rank. Knights are allowed to vote during Guild Votes. A Knight must show character beyond reproach, pass the Knights' Test of our Code of Conduct, have a character of level 30 or higher, and be approved by the Grey Council.
Advisor: An honorary rank granted to past members of the Grey Council from any world. Past Grey Council members who step down from their position are given this rank, which continues into other game worlds. They have no official powers beyond that of a Knight, but have access to the officers' forum in order to preserve their wisdom for the current Grey Council. Like a Knight, they may vote during Guild Votes, but not Council Votes.
Templar: The officers of the Grey Knights. They are limited in number and part of the Grey Council. The Grey Council has great responsibilities in running our guild. Members should only accept a position on the Grey Council if they wish to be very active in the maintenance of our guild. Templars vote in Council Votes. Templars are chosen by current members of the Grey Council from the ranks of Knights. Templars who later resign their position obtain the rank of Advisor.
Grey Lord: The guild leader of the Grey Knights. The Grey Lord is the chairperson of the Grey Council. The Grey Lord's only advantage over a Templar is that he or she will decide any tie votes of the Council. Grey Lords are selected by the Grey Council, normally choosing from the current Templars. If a Grey Lord resigns, he or she may choose to retain the rank of Templar and remain part of the Grey Council.
THE TESTS
Squires' Test: The Squires' Test must be passed with a 80% score or greater before a Page may be considered for promotion. The test involves 20 questions on the history and charter of our guild, all available at this website. The results of any attempt of this test will be posted on our forum (score only). A Page may attempt this test up to 3 times. Three failures of the test will result in the member being unable to obtain the rank of Squire. This results in the member being removed from the guild (see Page above). While taking the test, feel free to browse this website.
Knights' Test: The Knights' Test must be passed with a 100% score before a Squire may be considered for promotion. The test involves 10 questions on the Grey Knight Code of Conduct, which is available on this website within the Charter. The results of any attempt of this test will be posted on our forum (score only). A Squire may attempt this test once weekly, the requirement of 100% is to ensure a potential Knight knows our Code of Conduct completely. While taking the test, feel free to browse this website.
